Russian Rabobank rider Denis Menchov won the 12th stage of the Tour of Italy, a 61km individual time-trial, and took over from Danilo di Luca as race leader. American Levi Leipheimer finished second at 20 seconds and moved up to third in the general classification. Leipheimer’s teammate Lance Armstrong finished a respectable 13th on the day.
