Just like on Stage 1, Stage 2 resulted in a sprint finish. And, yet again, Mark Cavendish took the win while Peter Sagan grabbed second.

Just like the first stage of this year’s Amgen Tour of California, Etixx-Quick-Step’s Mark Cavendish took the win ahead of Peter Sagan of Tinkoff-Saxo on Stage 2. The 194-kilometer stage took the peloton from the city of Nevada City to Lodi and ended in a fast, flat sprint finish that included several finishing circuits around the downtown Lodi area. While Cavendish and his lead-out train put in a dominant performance on Stage 1, today’s second stage involved a much closer finish, with the Manx Missile taking the victory by less than a wheel-length over Sagan. Tomorrow’s third stage will include several categorized climbs and should see the leader’s overall jersey change hands.

1. Mark Cavendish, Etixx-Quick-Step
2. Peter Sagan, Tinkoff-Saxo
3. Wouter Wippert, Drapac
4. John Murphy, UnitedHealthcare
5. Danny van Poppel, Trek Factory Racing
6. Jempy Drucker, BMC
7. Lucas Sebastian Haedo, Jamis-Hagens Berman
8. Tyler Farrar, MTN-Qhubeka
9. Jure Kocjan, Smart Stop
10. Zio Waeytens, Giant-Alpecin
