SATURDAY, JULY 19TH – STAGE 14 – 177km

Grenoble / Risoul

Tour de France Says:

Two legendary peaks, the Lautaret and the Izoard, will spice things up before the summit finish in Risoul, which has already featured in the Tour de l’Avenir and the Crit‚rium du Dauphin‚. The idea we had in mind when designing the stage was putting the 19-kilometer Izoard as a springboard for a last hour of racing which will keep us on the edge of our seats… A coalition of attackers, why not? If the 2014 Froome is as strong as the 2013 Froome, we have to give his rivals the chance to look for chinks in his armor. This stage, the second and last one in the Alps, will provide ample opportunity for them to do just that.

Start: Grenoble

The city is deeply linked to three pillars of the history of cycling. First of all because it is frequently on the map of the Tour de France since 1905. Grenoble also remains the last town in France to organise a prestigious Grenoble Four-Day race in its velodrome. Finally, it is almost systematically a host to the Criterium du Dauphin‚. For its last edition, in 2013, one of the Tour’s most exciting attackers, Thomas Voeckler, had triumphed there, just in front of the Stade des Alpes.
