The Start:

Granville

The holiday resort overlooks at one end the Mont-Saint-Michel bay. Its magnificence and majesty imbued the most famous child of the city. Mentioning in his autobiography the house of his childhood, designer Christian Dior explains that “its life, its style owe everything to its situation and its architecture”. Another artist, André Darrigade, in a far more physical style sprinted to victory at home, when the Tour came for the only time in 1957.

The Finish:

Angers

Most of the finishes in Angers were decided after a sprint, including the last one claimed by Tom Boonen in 2004. But the city also hosted in 1967 the first prologue in the history of the Tour. Promised to Raymond Poulidor, the Yellow Jersey would once again elude him, finally going to Spaniard José María Errandonea, winner of the time-trial with a 6-second lead. In 1972, another prologue taking place there and won by Eddy Merckx would launch the Grand Départ of the Tour.
