Every year once December hits, the first full week a cycling camp is held down in Borrego Springs with the emphasis on “base miles” being performed. This year the camp was held during December 4th – 9th. Janel Holcomb is the leader behind this great week of riding and we were lucky enough to receive an invite to come join her for a couple of days. If you haven’t been down to Borrego Springs you should really check it out. Open roads, long climbs, minimal traffic make up for a great area for training.

60 attendees were on hand this year with all variations of skill level. The rides would start early morning lead by a speech from Janel. From here the group would be split into an “A” group and a “B” group. Both groups had ride leaders and sag support to follow. Stops were set up in advance with food & drinks to make the riders feel they had the “professional” treatment. The rides had a good mellow feel to them and not the hammer fest type which you may go to expect from a large group, although we would give it some push descending down Montezuma on our way back to town.

Riders who completed the full week of training covered 475 miles with 41,000 ft of climbing. Only one day for us but still a good day of riding with 100 miles & 9,000 ft of climbing. We recommend you having a look to join up for next year as it is a great way to change up your off – season base camp miles and have good times with great people.

Multiple partners are on hand as well to ensure everyone is treated professionally; Book-a-BikeMechanic, Enduro Bites, WD-40 Bike, Focus Bikes, Cyclist Massage, Bike Flights, Mavic, Action Wipes, Skratch Labs.
