2020 Tour de France Stage 16 Results — Kamna Doesn’t Make the Same Mistake Twice

24-year-old Lennard Kamna successfully solo’d to a stage 16 win in Villard-de-Lans. A group of 5 including Kamna, richard Carapaz and Julian Alaphilippe jumped out of the 22-man breakaway on the category 1 climb nearly 15 miles from the finish. The German Tour rookie finished second behind Dani Martinez last week, but Kamna seems to have learned from his mistake.  Richard Carapaz attacked as the elite group approached the summit of the cat 1  Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte only Kamna could react. As the  duo crossed the KOM line Kamna launched, quickly creating a 20 second gap ahead of Carapaz. Over the final 11km Kamna time trialed to victory.

Race leader Primoz Roglic along with many of the rides in the top 10 rolled in 15 minutes behind Kamna with no major impact in the overall standings. Defending champ Egan Bernal lost more time, falling to 16th overall, 19:04 adrift of Roglic.
