2020 Tour de France Stage 4 Route Preview

Tuesday, September 1 - Stage 4

Stage 4 – 157 km (97.5 miles)  – Hilly

An altitude finish as early on the Tour is extremely rare. The Grand Départ in Nice allows the race to evolve rapidly in the spectacular scenery of Hautes-Alpes. The day’s program with a first hilly excursion in the Dévoluy mountains isn’t made to split the pack too much. But the final climb to Orcières-Merlette, at over 5900 feet altitude, should give some precious information on the state of form of the favorites. – Christian Prudhomme

From the coast, a short punchy stage sends the peloton back towards the Alps.
One of the shortest stages of this year’s edition finishes may allow a breakaway to stick. Expect the main contneders to stick together. Top 3 stage winner picks: Pogacar, Valverde, Lopez.
