We are now less than a month away from when some of the world’s best cyclists converge on the Golden State to compete in the Amgen Tour of California. This year’s race kicks-off in the seaside city Long Beach which is also home to the famous Indy Car Grand Prix before heading up the coast to finish in the capital of Sacramento.
Locals know full-well that the finish for stage two on Gibraltar Road outside of Santa Barbara will definitely be a sight to see. The arduous climb is located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley that is home to some of the state’s most scenic riding. Not to be missed are the wineries and of course, breakfast at Paula’s Pancake House in the picturesque town of Solvang.
As the Tour heads north it will include stages for women’s racing as well, including the stage that rolls along the shores of Lake Tahoe. No doubt the headliner for the race will be three-time world champion, and recent Paris-Roubaix winner, Peter Sagan who will undoubtedly light up the field with his dynamic riding style.
