After years of speculation and desire, it looks like the German uber brand Canyon Bicycles (bike sponsors for both Movistar & Katusha) , long unavailable in America, will finally be making landfall in the spring of 2017. And, just as have they have done from the get-go, the high-end brand will maintain a consumer direct business model, but will have a U.S. based customer and tech center. Bike assembly will remain in the hometown headquarters of Koblenz, Germany.
“Any consumer should be able to assemble the bike themselves at home. That’s how we ship bikes currently and that will be how we do it in the U.S.,” said Canyon brand officer Frank Aldorf.
For the last few years Canyon has been producing some of the best performing, and, most talked-about bikes in the industry. With their consumer direct model, with prices far below what many of their big brand competitors have been able to match, it wil be interesting to see how the big U.S. brands and bike shops react.
