We are pleased to announce the date for the most unique cycling event in the US, the 2017 Cervélo Belgian Waffle Ride, which will be held on Sunday, May 21 2017.
Registration will open December 1, 2016 at 12:00am. The website, www.BelgianWaffleRide.Bike will be live prior to that with the vital information about the event and where to register. PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF IT.
The new date was chosen to accommodate a variety of things. We didn’t want to compete with our friends at the Dana Point Grand Prix, which is being held April 28-29. The next weekend is the Redlands Classic, which we did not want to compete with either, because we are inviting all those pro teams to this year’s edition of the BWR. The next weekend is Mother’s Day, and we weren’t going to do that to Mom, so we arrived at the weekend of May 20-21.
We will be hosting the largest cycling party in San Diego on May 20th at the Cervélo Belgian Waffle Ride Expo, where we will be airing the final Stage of the AMGEN Tour of California on a jumbo screen inside the massive beer garden at the Lost Abbey brewery. This will be a fête unlike any other you’ve attended.
The next day will feature the deepest field ever assembled for the BWR, with continental pro teams and even riders in town for the TOC.
Some things to note:
The course will change a bit this year and not be quite as long. Yes, you read that correctly. As with all spring classics, sometimes the courses change for the better. We know ours is.
There is a new team category being added to the event for both the Waffle and Wafer. You will be able to race with your teammates against other teams in Male, Female and Co-Ed classifications. The cumulative time of the top four finishers from each team will determine the placings.
This will be the most festive and interesting event to date. We have many new fun and exciting features to roll out for everyone this year, on a more manageable course, with a stacked field of riders from all over the world.
We are very pleased to share all of this with you in May.
P.S. We would like to invite you to come out and enjoy the first Mavic ALLROAD Spandex Stampede Gravel Grinder Fondo with us. The event will take place Saturday, November 12th in Temecula CA.
The first male/female finisher will receive a $400 cash award, which happens to be the same payout as 19th on GC at this year’s Tour of California. This ride will be capped at 200 riders so you need to sign up now. This is a true gravel grinder course as 80% of the route is off-road, 48 miles with 4,000 ft of climbing.
