BIKE OF THE WEEK: COLNAGO V4RS

Made to win

Colnago has introduced the new V4Rs, their fastest monocoque frame ever, a unique bike to excel on all types of terrain, developed in collaboration with one of the strongest WorldTour cycling teams. The UAE Emirates Team contribution was fundamental in the long prototyping phase and subsequent road tests and then directly in races. The input received from the riders made it possible to work on clear and defined areas, such as aerodynamics, weight, real dynamic stiffness, geometry, robustness and reliability.

The V-series was last updated in 2019 in the form of the V3Rs, which saw success under Tadej Pogacar at the 2020 and 2021 Tour de France. The V3Rs utilized a monocoque carbon frame and subtle aerodynamic shaping that Colnago developed while creating their Concept aero frame. Colnago claimed the bike is not only aero and allowed for 32mm tires making the V3Rs a well-rounded modern road bike.

The V4Rs continues with the monocoque frame construction and improves aerodynamics by sheering away the frontal profile of the head tube and the addition of the one-piece CC.01 handlebar and stem. According to Colnago, the frame weight stays about the same as the V3RS (at 790g), but the total system weight (ie. frame, fork, headset and handlebars) is reduced by 47 grams. We like the update of the CeramicSpeed STL bearings. The “solid lubrication technology” improves the durability of the bearing thanks to its proprietary polymer and stainless steel construction.

When it comes to pricing, the V4RS is on the high end of the spectrum with frames running for €5250 ($5578), and the Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 build set at €15,260 ($16,214). Colnago offers five colorways, including the UAE team-inspired designs and seven sizes (42-57cm) of the V4Rs.
