The Colorado Classic originally had planned to have Lance Armstrong’s new podcast “Stages” as a partner of their upcoming race. Lance’s new podcast became very popular during the Tour de France where it reached over 5 million downloads over the three week period.
After this announcement though there were many complaints from the public calling onto the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to step in and look into this as Lance is serving a lifetime ban. Under that ban no athlete is allowed to participate “in any capacity in a competition or activity.”
Under the ruling the wording of “activity” also includes official, director, volunteer, etc. of the organization. The Colorado Classic organizers have looked now to cut ties with the possible “media sponsorship” of the Armstrong podcast with the following statement:
“In light of concerns expressed by USADA, we came to a mutual agreement that it is in the best interest of the Colorado Classic to cancel the marketing partnership with the Stages podcast.”
This has not stopped Armstrong though as he has looked to still record his Stages podcast but now at The Infinite Monkey Theorem in Denver, CO. Lance and co-host JB Hager will provide post race commentary while having it open to the public viewing with Facebook live as well.
