Dirty Kanza Is On – Well, Virtually

Three days of gravel, effort and fun still for the taking

Press Release

Far be it for anyone but the passionate gravel hounds in Emporia, Kansas to let this upcoming weekend slip by without even the slightest pretense of what we all know we would normally be doing if these were indeed normal times….Dirty Kanza!

However, just because the pandemic has forced everyone to postpone and re-schedule their events doesn’t mean that Jim Cummins and his Liftetime/Dirty Kanza crew haven’t been busy coming up with an alternative…and here it is….

“The official state motto of Kansas is the Latin phrase “Ad Astra Per Aspera” which translates “To the Stars Through Difficulty.” The motto refers not only to the pioneering spirit of the early settlers, but also is a reference to the seven-year struggle to make the Territory of Kansas a state. Wow, how powerful given our current climate. And with that, through the stars and space (and really…technology) we bring you a week of Dirty Kanza – Ad Astra Edition!”

Garmin Dirty Kanza Group Ride on Zwift, lead by reigning DK Women’s Champ Amity Rockwell
One of our favorite parts of DK weekend is the big shakeout ride with all of our friends before the race.

Because in-person group rides are off the table for now, we’re excited to announce our group ride on Zwift, taking place on Wednesday, May 27 at 6:30 PM CST. This social ride is open to all ability levels and led by none other than 2019 Garmin Dirty Kanza overall female winner, Amity Rockwell. Join Amity and a whole slew of other DK favorites for a little virtual shakeout to kick things off.

Thursday, May 28 – Friday, May 29

Race Day, Baby! Let’s Ride!
It’s time to take to the dirt for a little #DIYGravel. We’re partnering with multiple-time DK winner Ted King and his DIY Gravel initiative to help you create a DK experience right outside your front door. Here’s the skinny:
Design a route equivalent to the distance you would have raced/ridden at DK. #BringYourOwnSnacks.
Ride that route, upload your file to Ted’s DIY page
You’ll be entered to win prizes from our partners
Use the hashtag #DIYgravel and tell us about it on the ‘gram. We’ll be giving away prizes from DK partners and sharing your stories on our social channels.
