Kona Bikes is proud to present the largest, most eclectic group of skinny tire bikes in our 28-year history. Since we first started designing road bikes in 1990 we’ve always done it a little different—bikes that use unique materials like titanium and cromoly, with geometry and features that not only maximize efficiency and speed, but the almighty fun quotient as well. Because for us, whether you’re racing 200 miles of gravel or bombing farm roads, how a bike makes you smile is just as important as how fast it gets to the finish.
You’ll see this ethic come alive in our new models like the Cherry-Red Reynolds 853 ROADHOUSE with Shimano 105/Ultegra groupo featuring an all-new Kona Carbon Road fork with thru-axle hubs and flat mount Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. The PRIVATE JAKE is another new model that ushers in a completely new competition cyclocross machine, featuring a SRAM 1×11 Rival One groupo, thru-axle hubs and Tektro Spyre hydraulic brakes. The SUTRA LTD takes adventure touring to another level with a full Kona Cromoly frame and fork, SRAM 1×11 Rival groupo, Race Face Aeffect cranks and Schwalbe Mondial 700 x 47C kevlar bead tire.
Reynold’s tubing with a tapered head tube with external headset cups provides needed stiffness and control without overdoing things visually or weight-wise. 12x142mm thru-axle dropouts with flat mount disc brake design, a full carbon Kona Road Endurance flat-disc-mount-specific fork with 15mm thru-axle dropouts and fender readiness.
Private Jake $1999
A brand new offering for 2016 season, the Private Jake frame features an adjustable 12×142 rear dropout and a new 15mm fork to provide a capable and versatile package for the privateer racer. The frame features internal routing for the rear derailleur and rear brake, a tapered head tube and PressFit 30 bottom bracket. The frame omits a front derailleur option in favor of shorter chainstays to improve power transfer and handling speed. The frame also makes a great single-speed race rig and has clearance for 40mm tires.
Sutra LtD $1999
The new Sutra geometry is based on of our new CX geometry but uses a taller head tube and longer top tube as well as a 50mm offset fork to help improve tire clearance and limit toe overlap. The frame has a replaceable derailleur hanger on the rear dropout for unexpected issues during a trip, hidden fender eyelets inside the seatstays, and simple external cable routing for both shifters. The frame has two water-bottle bosses on the inside of the triangle and one on the underside. The new Sutra frame has a 1 ⅛” head tube and a newly designed fork has tapered blades for a more compliant ride, as well as forward-facing dropouts with two fender/rack eyelets and a set of water-bottle bosses in the low rider position for maximum rack compatibility. The seatstays on the Sutra have been thinned down slightly to help reduce chatter and provide a clean look. The Sutra frame uses slightly heavier gauge tubing than the Rove frame to provide a stiffer platform for heavier loads.
