First Look: Canyon Goes e-Gravel

The pedal-assist gravel market is starting to get crowded...at last!

Although with each passing day that we don’t see a new e-road bike from Canyon, it only builds our level of anticipation over what is to come from the German high-tech bike brand. Until then we have a new e-gravel bike to look over. Yes, it has the same silly dual-plane handlebar as the non-assist Grail, but everything else about the bike looks impressive.

Press Release

Welcome to Electrified Escape. After disrupting the bike business with their direct-to-consumer, online-only business model, Canyon Bicycles is taking aim at the everyday day routine.

Gravel riding and e-bikes are two of the fastest growing segments in cycling, as people want to explore the fire roads and trails that often ring urban/ suburban areas but don’t have the time or fitness to access them under their own power.

What’s so different about the Canyon Grail: ON?
Innovative comfort concept consisting of the revolutionary Double Decker handlebar cockpit, a flexible leaf spring VCLS 2.0 seatpost, a lightweight carbon fiber frame, and high-volume tires.

A wide range of sizes (2XS-2XL) with smaller sizes featuring smaller 650b wheels to maintain nimble handling.

A longer wheelbase and wider 50 mm tires to provide the extra stability and traction required when using a motor to surge over uneven terrain, plus a more relaxed, upright riding position to further increase comfort.

The latest Bosch Performance Line CX Gen4 drive system – a punchy, powerful, motor with a huge 85 Nm of torque on tap and support of up to 340% of the rider’s own power. A range of up to 80 miles from the 500wH battery and maximum motor assist up to 20mph, the legal limit for Class 1 e-bikes in the US

The Grail: ON CF will be available  only at Canyon Bicycles. The US range will initially comprise two Grail: ON models, the Shimano GRX-equipped Grail: ON CF 8 ($5799) and the flagship Grail: ON CF 8 eTap ($6999) with electronic SRAM Force AXS eTap shifting, carbon wheels and a weight of only 35lbs in size Medium.
