The ball-and-socket design of Spherical Technology™ is powered by the MIPS® Brain Protection System, but eliminates the conventional plastic slip plane from the interior surface of the helmet, along with compromises to comfort and ventilation. By integrating the MIPS slip plane and elastomeric anchors between the two Nanobead EPS foam liners, the interior of the helmet can be aggressively channeled to enhance airflow and cooling power, and is free of excess plastic or snag points that can compromise ventilation and sweat management, create pressure or snag points that pull hair.
And because Spherical Technology uses two separate foam liners, the density of each layer can be optimized with Progressive Layering to address the varying characteristics of high- and low-speed impacts. The system was developed in the DOME laboratory in Giro’s Scotts Valley headquarters in partnership with MIPS®, and in addition to being available in helmets meeting relevant CPSC, CE and AUS/NZ test standards, helmets equipped with Spherical Technology earn 5-star ratings from Virginia Tech as well.
In addition to advanced brain protection, the Helios Spherical delivers many of Giro’s top features in a very compact yet airy design. Cooling power comes from 15 vents coupled with Wind Tunnel™ internal channeling to maximize airflow through the helmet, and the plush Ionic+™ antimicrobial interior padding helps manage sweat while fighting odor-causing bacteria. The helmet’s exterior shell is made with the InMold process that permanently fuses the polycarbonate with the nanobead EPS foam liners, and it wraps to the interior edges of the helmet to increase durability. Fit and stability are enhanced by the acclaimed Roc Loc® 5 Air fit system, which allows independent adjustment of fit tension and height to optimize comfort and positioning in seconds.
