If it’s not one week, it’s the next that British wheel brand Hunt has a new wheel to talk about. Over the years we’ve consistently come away impressed with their higher-end carbon offerings that have seen us through everything from the Montrose group ride to Dirty Kanza. And as much for the performance, but also the cost/benefit analysis, Hunt hoops have proven a popular choice.
At the same time, spending upwards of $2000 for some fancy carbon hoops isn’t for everyone. And now Hunt is introducing a low-cost alternative in the shape of their Alloy SL Disc aluminum wheels.
HUNT ALLOY SL DISC WHEELS
The Alloy SL Disc is our lightest alloy disc-brake wheelset, offering a level of responsiveness and performance typically reserved for carbon wheels.
The wheelset benefits from a super-light, asymmetric disc-specific rim profile, laced with bladed, straight-pull spokes to our new Sprint SL hubs, offering 7.5 degree engagement for rapid acceleration under load.
Super-light and responsive, the HUNT Alloy SL Disc is our fastest aluminum wheelset for when the road points uphill. They are our lightest alloy disc-brake wheelset, offering a level of responsiveness and performance typically reserved for carbon wheels.
The wheelset benefits from a super-light, asymmetric disc-specific rim profile, made from a special HFR+ (High Fatigue Resistance) 6061-T6 heat-treated alloy. They’re asymmetric and V-shaped in profile, which remains the best option when strength and weight are the priorities.
These are laced with triple butted, straight-pull spokes to our new Sprint SL hubs, offering 7.5 degree engagement for rapid acceleration under load.
Light & fast alloy, engineered to perform. and with a 60 Day Ride & Return policy. Shimano/SRAM 8/9/10/11/12 Speed.
Sprint SL Hubs
The wheels feature our new HUNT Sprint SL hubs, which take the fast-engaging & durable specs of our much-loved Sprint hubs, and wrap them up in all-new, lightweight shells, saving 20g per hubset in the process.
The new shells are made from a 6066 heat-treated alloy. Compared to the 6061 of our Sprint hubs, they feature a greater tensile strength, as well as a higher strength-to-weight ratio.
Our engineering capacity has grown to incorporate full FEA stress analysis on hubs, rims, and other componentry. The Sprint SL hubs are the first component developed since bringing this testing capacity in-house.
These butted blade aero spokes are lighter but also provide a greater degree of elasticity, to maintain spoke tensions longer and add fatigue resistance. These PSR spokes feature the 2.2 width at the spoke head providing more material in this high stress area.
Lightweight, hard-anodised alloy spoke nipples are chosen to accompany the high-end spokes. As well as the standard square body we chose nipples with a hex head so you can achieve precise tensioning.
A strong and lightweight HFR+ (High Fatigue Resistance) heat-treated alloy rim. The rim profile is asymmetric and disc-specific. The rim dimensions are 25mm deep and 24mm wide (19mm internal) optimized for 25-28mm tires, but working well for anything 23-45mm.
H_LOCK is our tubeless-ready rim bed profile, with up-kicks to the shoulders of the tubeless steps. These help to create an easy initial seal for tubeless tires. The H_LOCK profile also locks the beads in place more securely once seated, enabling you to run lower pressures without worrying about tire deformation.
High-grade Japanese EZO bearings. Rear hub upgraded to even faster rolling LU/LB low-friction sealed internal face, dual sealed external face bearings.
Easily adaptable & we fit them for you. Fit all current axle sizes and are easy to change; Front – QR, Bolt thru 12/9mm, Rear – QR, Bolt thru 12×142, 12×135, 10×135.
Tubeless-ready 19mm rim bed is ideal for 25-28c tires, and will support up to 45c.

WARRANTY, HUNT ROLLING ROAD TESTS & WEIGHT LIMITS
A full 3 years from purchase date warranty is offered to the original purchaser only on all Hunt bike wheels against material or workmanship defects, please click here to read full details.
All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh cobbled-rolling-road tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. 220lbs is the upper recommended rider weight limit for these wheels. Please include the weight of any luggage in your total rider weight when choosing the correct wheels. If a rider is over 178lbs then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly and it is advisable to use tires at max 90psi as this will reduce the fatigue on the wheelset. We are cyclists ourselves and do of course go above and beyond to offer excellent service if you ever do experience any issues. We carry full spares at very reasonable prices and offer complete support.
60 Day Ride & Return Period. We are certain you’ll be impressed by the acceleration, low-weight, speed and durability of our wheels. We are cyclists and as such strive to offer class leading service and support. Buy with confidence, if for any reason you wish to return the wheels for a full refund of your order you can do so up to a full 60 days after you receive them whether they have been ridden or not. Please note we cannot offer refunds on wheels that have suffered from crash damage but do offer a crash replacement discount.
TUBELESS TIRE OPTIONS
We can supply tubeless tires (including sealant) with your wheels which are also designed to work excellently with clincher tires and tubes.
Click here to listen to a podcast exploring the science of why lower pressures were found to be faster by pro teams. Maximum tire pressures for other tire sizes: 30mm – 32mm do not exceed 70psi, 33mm do not exceed 50psi, 35-45mm do not exceed 45psi, 45-50mm do not exceed 40psi. Please do not exceed the maximum pressure stated on your tire.
