The young Fernando Gaviria (Etixx – Quick Step) shocked Mark Cavendish at the Tour of San Luis last year, so Ettixx-Quick Step decided to hire him. That decision is already paying dividends as he won Stage 3 in a sprint.

Greg Van Avermaet (BMC)  narrowly beat Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) to the line in Stage 6. The bonus seconds would end up having a huge impact on the overall classification by the end of Stage 7.
