INTERBIKE: Wahoo Releases ELEMNT “Smart” Computer

After years of watching Garmin’s domination in the GPS computer market, and then Lezyne entering the fray earlier this year, Wahoo Fitness has now leaped in with the GPS-enabled ELEMNT cycling computer. The ELEMNT packs ANT+, Bluetooth Smart, and WiFi connectivity that allows riders to view key ride metrics, navigate a route, track fellow riders’ locations in real-time as well as receive en-route call, text and email notifications—all on a large-format, high-contrast display.

A quite interesting and unique feature are “QuickLook” LED indicators located on the sides of the computer body that provide visual indicators for programable alerts and data. The indicators can be set to display metrics such as speed, heart rate, power, turn-by-turn navigation cues and more.

By utilizing the smartphone interface with the ELEMNT companion app that’s available for both iOS and android platforms, automates the ELEMNT pairing and manages the configuration process during setup. The ELEMNT also integrates with third-party platforms like Strava, RideWithGPS, MapMyRide, RideWithGPS, and Training Peaks thanks to wireless syncing via Bluetooth or WiFi, allowing you to upload a ride remotely.

For those of us that use a KICKR indoor trainer, the ELEMNT offers riders the ability to control the trainer rather than having to use a tablet or smartphone, and can even allow you to recreate any saved course indoors by matching resistance to the ride’s GPS profile. So, if there’s that

Wahoo says the ELEMNT will be available late this year for $329.99.
