IT’S TIME TO RIDE – NOVA EROICA CALIFORNIA RETURNS

The 6th edition of Eroica and Nova Eroica California will be back in Cambria,  April 30 and May 1 2022. Under the warm Central Coast sunshine, the Eroica team has been building new and nurturing old relationships with the surrounding communities to ensure Eroica California 2022 will be the best edition yet.

Get ready to ride the central California coast starting in the seaside town of Cambria as a variety of routes traverse the surrounding canyons and foothills. All are welcome Saturday April 30 for a two “Long” and Short” options of mixed-surface riding ideal for gravel and road bikes with about 30 miles of “strade bianche”. On Sunday May 1, the traditional Eroica event takes place which gives collectors and tinkerers alike a chance to show off their vintage road bikes. Eroica specifies the bikes, clothing and accessories that may be used in the event as follows.

Bikes: Eroica rides are organized exclusively for Bici Eroiche (Historical Bikes); road-racing bikes built in 1987 or earlier, both with and without gears. These bikes normally have a steel frame with shift levers on the down tube and brake cables that must pass outside and over the handlebars. Pedals should be with toe clips and straps; quick release or clipless pedals are not allowed. Vintage-style bikes, clothing and accessories are recommended, provided they exhibit the approved characteristics.

Clothing: Clothing must be of classic inspiration, such as wool jerseys and bib shorts, or acrylic or other materials that were used until the late ‘80s. Clothing or accessories with technical materials of recent manufacture, including sunglasses, should be avoided.

Accessories: The choice of accessories – such as shoes, hats and water bottles – should comply with the spirit of our events. The only modern accessory that is allowed and recommended for use is the modern safety helmet.
