SUMMERTIME BLUES – COOL TIPS FROM CTS
Heat illness doesn’t care how much you know about hydration and cooling. Despite all the right preparations, even experts and experienced athletes can end up with heat illness when things go wrong during training or competition. As a community, it is crucial for all athletes to understand the signs and symptoms of heat illness, how to prevent it, and how to help athletes suffering from it. Start with this guide prepared by our friends at Carmichael Training Systems.
FIRST LOOK: MAVIC COSMIC ULTIMATE SL
While the well-heeled out there go on about Mavic’s limited edition $1000 Comete Ultimate shoe, anyone else with a yellow shoe fetish should instead give an eye towards the Cosmic Ultimate. Not only do the 382 gram (per pair) shoes weigh a lot less than the 640 gram Cometes, but priced at just $330, they’re a whopping third of the cost. Along with the carbon sole, the single Boa closure helps shed the weight. For more info: Mavic.
A TALE OF TWO GIANTS
That’s where the Giant TCR Advanced SL comes in. In pursuit of a budget-friendly race bike, we recently decided to build-up a readily visible lime green frameset with a Shimano Ultegra drivetrain to create a budget-friendly bike that leans heavily on performance capabilities.
While we were in the shopping mood at Giant, we also cast an eye toward the equally green (although slightly less neon) TCX Advanced gravel bike. This dirt bike (below) sells for an easy-on-the-wallet $2120 complete.
