LIEGE-BASTOGNE-LIEGE 2022 RESULTS

Remco Evenepoel won Liege-Bastogne-Liege 2022 with a bombastic solo attack 142 miles into the race. In his race debut, Evenepoel crossed the finish line in Liege after 6:12:38  with a 48 second advantage over Quinten Hermans and Wout van Aert. The 22-year-old became the youngest rider to win Liege in nearly 50 years and only the second Belgian to win this century.

17 miles from the finish Evenepoel launched a blistering solo attack dropping the peloton in the final meters of the La Redoute climb. Evenepoel pushed the gap out to 30 seconds as he reeled in the remainder of the breakaway one-by-one over the next 5 miles. Bahrain Victorious’ Matej Mohoric and the Movistar team picked up the chasing duties for their leaders but Remco and the final breakaway survivor FDJ’s Bruno Armirail held the gap around 30 seconds.

With under 9 miles to go Evenepoel dropped Armirail to become the sole leader and pushed the gap to 43 seconds. The gap held steady around 30 seconds until attacks began to pop off from the chase group of favorites. Efforts from Dylan Teuns, Aleksandr Vlasov and Michael Woods pushed the gap down to 17 seconds. As the chasers gathered themselves after the attacks Evenepoel was able to regain his 30 second advantage. Evenepoel held on to to enjoy an emotional celebration at the line.
