Lunch Ride Review: Lazer Z1 Helmet

You may have seen these helmets protecting the heads of the worlds top teams like Belgian Lotto Belisol and American Optum. The Z1 is Lazer’s newest addition to their wide range of road cycling helmets.

The Z1 is available in 11 colors and in small, medium and large sizes.

The Z1 antes up at a now Lazer low of 270 grams (Medium). Though the weight savings may only be nominal, the 34 strategically placed vents provide remarkable airflow for expelling hot air while pulling in fresh air. Compared to the 19 vents, for their previously high end Helium helmet, the Z1 blows it away for maintaining a chilly head. A minimal amount of contact with the head allows for only two strips of anti-microbial X-Static padding for an added odorless-airflow advantage.

As always Lazer’s Rollsys system provides a unique fit and comfort found nowhere else.

Proving its design prowess, the Z1 is a major improvement upon Lazer’s Helium helmet. It provides and amazing amount of airflow, a lighter feel on the head, a more comfortable padding system, and a lay flat side strap system, which was a much needed addition. All-in-all the fit, shape and comfort elements are present for our tester’s head, but we recommend visiting the local bike shop to check out and feel the helmet for yourself, everyone’s head is shaped different. A helmet that you forget about, while riding, is the best one for you.
