MATCHMAKING WITH A SEROTTA COORS LIGHT TEAM BIKE

Scott Moninger's team bike rolls on 30 years later

Dear RBA,

I love your magazine. I have old copies around the house, in my car, and on the school bus I drive for any time I have 10 minutes to kill.

I thought of writing to you about the vintage steel Serotta I bought in July. And when I saw the SIDI Schwag letter of the month in October from Eric Pederson, I had no choice but to write. I bought the Serotta from HIM.

Ready to ride – Jeff’s 1991 Coors Light team bike.

This summer I saw an ad selling a 1991 Serotta Coors Light team replica bike. I’ve always wanted a classic steel bike. I googled the bike, and a March 2018 RBA article on Scott Moninger’s Coors Light team bike came up. In the early 90’s, my friends and I saw the team racing when we used to go to Philadelphia for what was at the time the Core States US Pro Championships. I was sold. In late July, my best friend and riding buddy Tony and I drove to south Jersey to meet Eric. In contacting Eric, who is a wonderful gentleman and cyclist, I learned it was a donated bike that he was selling for his bike club, the South Jersey Wheelmen. So you see the interesting link of RBA, the Serotta, and Eric.

The bike itself is immaculate, full 1991 Shimano Dura-Ace, 59cm, original owner spec’d 50×39 with an 8 speed 12-23 cassette. I have about 400 miles on it, and it rides like a fast dream.

Thank you for the super magazine, and for bringing my Serotta and I together.
