ALAPHILIPPE REMAINS IN HOSPITAL
Following multiple injuries from a mass-crash during the Liege-Bastogne-Liege race, world champion Julian Alaphilippe will be kept under prolonged observation in a Belgian hospital, his Quick Step team said Tuesday. Alaphilippe suffered two broken ribs, a broken shoulder and a collapsed lung after being caught in a spectacular crash that propelled the double world champion down an embankment and into a tree.
“As previously reported, Julian sustained two broken ribs, a broken scapula and a hemo pneumothorax,” Quick Step confirmed in a medical update Tuesday.
“The complexity of his condition means that a period of further observation will be required before a recovery pathway can be decided.”

It seems like everywhere from road races and cyclocross nationals to trade shows and gravel events, we’ve run into Boyd Johnson. And rarely not by his side is his wife, Nicole. Of course, best of all (depending if it’s nap time or not), their young daughter Olive is also in tow. The Johnsons have been plugging away at their wheel business for a decade now, which means they’ve witnessed everything from the industry rush to carbon clinchers to the need for wider internal widths.
Having just moved Boyd Cycling to a new facility in Greenville, North Carolina, we sat down with the 41-year-old wheel builder to find out more about his self-made business and what the latest tips are for consumers.

TOUR DE ROMANDIE STAGE 1 RESULTS
Dylan Teuns, who won the Fleche Wallonne classic last week, took the win on stage 1 of the Tour de Romandie on Wednesday, edging Rohan Dennis at the line. Dennis, who rides for Jumbo-Visma, took the overall lead after finishing second in the 3-mile prologue time trial the day before. After a breakaway group was caught just before the end of 110 mile stage from La Grand Beroche to Romont, Dennis attacked on the short climb to the finish. Teuns, a Belgian who rides for Bahrain-Victorious, followed and caught Dennis at the line.
The pair finished two seconds ahead of Swiss rider Marc Hirschi of Team UAE. Dennis took the green leader’s jersey from young Briton Ethan Hayter of Ineos, who was caught in a crash with 9 miles to go. Dennis is 16 seconds ahead of Austrian Felix Grossschartner of Bora Hansgrohe and last year’s winner Welshman Geraint Thomas of Ineos.

SONNY COLBRELLI MAY RIDE AGAIN AFTER HEART ATTACK
Italy’s 2021 Paris Roubaix victor Sonny Colbrelli is fit enough to resume “leisure rides and light physical activity” after he suffered cardio-respiratory arrest in March. Colbrelli, who turns 32 next month, was fitted with a defibrillator after he lost consciousness after finishing second in the first stage of the Tour of Catalunya on March 21.
“Following Colbrelli’s successful operation on March 31st, the Italian rider has continued to undergo further medical check at the Sports Cardiology Unit of the University of Padua,” according to Bahrain’s statement.
“The clinical examinations have shown further improvement of cardiovascular health clearing Colbrelli to start taking up leisure rides and light physical activity.
“The priority remains to continually monitor his condition with a close follow up in the coming months to secure his safety and resumption of regular life activities.”
