When we decided to head back to SBT GRVL for the 2022 edition, we put Moots on our priority list of bikes. Since it’s their hometown, we wanted to get the insider scoop on what they felt was the best bike to take on their roads. The Moots Routt RSL was hands down the bike to have on the fast and well-maintained roads. It also leads the sales at Moots with about 65% of the bikes leaving their Steamboat Springs, Co facility where every bike is handmade.
Moots offers the Routt RSL in a frameset starting at $6800, and complete builds start at $11,000. After getting the full factory tour and meeting the entire Moots family, these dream bikes are next level. There are plenty of finish options, and no detail is overlooked. Overall we couldn’t have picked a better bike and partner for this top-notch event.
THE PARTS
Drivetrain
Shimano GRX Di2 is an 11-speed gravel-specific drivetrain. As we have come to expect the electronic shifting is spot on every time, even when the road is rough. The system has a 48/31 crankset and 11-34 cassette for great top speed as well as gearing for steep climbing.
Wheels and tires
Since our Routt RSL is pretty much a dream build for any cyclist we kept with the Moots recommended Panaracer Gravelking SK 43mm tubeless rubber. They are wrapped around the new HED Emporia GC3 Pro wheels. The new HED wheels have a 26mm internal width and hookless bead and are leading the industry in the correct direction for gravel and road tubeless. The wheels retail for $2500 but they also offer the Performance version for $1750.
