Press Release
The Campagnolo movement to improve the cycling experience began nearly 85 years ago and the company has been adding precision performance movement to frames and cyclists alike ever since. The dedication to continuous innovation remains steadfast and the development of better and newer technologies is part of the everyday business at the Vicenza headquarters. Whether it be delving headfirst into new segments and technologies (such as the disc brake project) or pushing existing technology to an entirely new level (Movement12 transmissions.)
Campagnolo strives to make each cyclist’s time in the saddle a better experience through fantastic, long lasting and reliable performance products. The recent introduction of a new transmission has presented the cycling populous with a new performance standard sure to offer the maximum in speed, precision and versatility like never before. The introduction of the disc brake project the year prior saw the company bring to market six new groupsets with unrivaled braking performance and customization ergonomy. By combining these two fantastic innovations, Campagnolo is pleased to introduce two new groupsets that represent not only the newest, most efficient and sophisticated mechanical transmission to propel the rider forward towards his or her goal, but the fantastic control of the finest disc brake technology to harness that decisive speed and shifting.
The newest movement for the discerning cyclist’s disc brake compatible frame comes in two forms: Super Record and Record Disc Building on the backs of the fantastic H11 Ergopower commands, which ushered in a new level of personalized ergonomy and control, the new Super Record and Record commands incorporate new advancements to ensure they earn their top-level standing. As with H11, the new Ergopowers are only 8mm taller than their rim brake counterparts, offering an additional hand position without altering ergonomy or ruining the finely crafted aesthetics of the component.
Campagnolo, never being content with leaving good enough alone, strives to make great better and in doing so has improved upon ergonomy even further by incorporating a new form to the brake lever. Internal studies showed that this new form optimized access to the brake lever for all hand forms and sizes from the drops and made for a safer hand position when engaging the lever. New forms for the upshifting levers, now larger and easier to find in addition to being profiled to match perfectly with the contours of the brake lever are also incorporated into the new design. Both brake and upshifting levers are completely customizable to the rider’s needs and preferences by using a simple Allen key.
Just as with the H11 predecessor this customization applies not only to the ergonomics but also to the performance as the AMS setting allows for fine-tuning of the brakes performance and free stroke to meet each individual cyclists personal preference. New internals, matched with advancements in derailleur technology and new, super-low-friction cables and housing, make for easier upshifting that requires not only less force but also less movement of the rider’s hands. The starting point of the upshift now begins more towards the outside and as such eliminates useless free-stroke, a characteristic unique to Campagnolo.
A larger downshift lever is also introduced to ensure easier location of commands during even the most demanding and extreme efforts. The new commands maintain the Campagnolo tried and trusted One-Lever One-Action layout and match with the industry leading Ultra- Shift internal mechanism.
The new Super Record and Record disc brake Ergopower commands connect to, and control, the most capable and advanced mechanical rear derailleur in the history of Campagnolo mechanical transmissions. The “cambio Campagnolo” in its newest version introduces advanced technologies such as 3D Embrace, new trajectory curve and an upper wheel pulley controlled by a gearwheel as opposed to a spring to offer the most precise shifting, best power transfer and groundbreaking performance ever seen on a mechanical rear derailleur.
The high-performance rear derailleur carries out its duty flawlessly over 12 speeds but does so in the same spacing as required for 11, thus rendering it 100% compatible with current wheelsets and frame spacing. To render this possible, the high performance and longest lasting chain on the market was reduced in width without altering its reliability or longevity in the slightest. The individual cogs on the cassette and spacing between them was also slightly reduced and, just like the chain, maintain their long-lasting performance qualities. Thanks to additional gears in the transmission, only two cassettes will be necessary. 12 speeds allow for all gaps in metric development to be filled and as a result, a scale that increases by only one tooth at a time for the first 8 cogs.
The rider can choose his or her preferred high-end gearing with a selection of with 11-29 or 11-32. The front derailleur also breaks new ground with technologies including an unlinked upper semi rod that eliminates free stroke, specific rod designs and thinner cage form adept at handling cross chaining to offer very versatile and performance oriented front shifting. Dedicated positions for each chainring also ensures safer and more efficient shifting and component longevity.
The all-new cranksets in both Super Record and Record versions maintain the four-arm, 8-bolt spider design that rendered one crankset compatible with all chainring combinations. However, the new Movement12 cranksets have been developed in such a way to be compatible across all platforms as well. One crankset for all applications is now available…whether you choose compact or standard, rim or disc. Available in 4 lengths (165, 170, 172.5, 175) carry over technologies such as chainring combination specific shift zones, hard anodization of chainrings and Ultra-Torque meet with left crank closing system, innovative new aerodynamic form and more efficient chainring bracing methods to ensure to most advanced cranksets yet from Campagnolo.
The new Super Record and Record disc brake Ergopower commands connect to the recently launched disc brake componentry with all of the advanced technology brought forth in H11. Some of the most powerful calipers available on the market, thanks to 22mm pistons in lightweight and thermal resistant phenolic resin construction, make for a direct connection between rider and surefooted stopping power. Made specifically for the flat mount standard the Campagnolo DB calipers guarantee a clean aesthetic and a safer design as they mount without the need for any adaptors.
Brake pads with antivibration chamfer to keep things silent and smooth, a special form to assist in wheel changes and both visual and audible wear indicators are set make it clear that no detail was left to chance in the development of these brakes. Obviously, the most critical part of braking performance occurs at the contact points and the Campagnolo pad/ rotor interface is extremely performance oriented while not sacrificing anything in terms of reliability and safety.
The organic resin pad compound is extremely resistant to heat and provides uniform and consistent braking performance despite varied temperature or climatic conditions. That safety and reliability is further guaranteed thanks to the AFS compatible Campagnolo rotors with safely rounded external edges not only dissipate heat in a safe and uniform manner but are able to guarantee performance in situations of heat that compromise the functionality of products coming from their competitors. In other words by creating a new standard in terms of mechanical shifting and applying the universally lauded technologies derived from the disk brake projects H11 braking system Campagnolo has created a pair of 12-speed groupsets that need to be ridden to be appreciated.
Wider gearing, smoother and more responsive shifting, zero compromise cassette scale, new shifting technologies, improved ergonomics and some of the finest disc brake performance available means that there is but one choice if the quality of your ride really matters: Campagnolo. Make sure to add Campagnolo movement to your next frame and experience the culmination of history and tradition meeting the future. Movement for experts: Movement by Campagnolo.
