As if Peter Sagan couldn’t be anymore impressive he just made history this past weekend. Typical Peter style he had a slight cold before the race and didn’t even bother to preview the course until he was out there during the race. Cool, calm and collected you never saw him during the race and even with the late attacks he just sat back and waited. Only until about 1 kilometer to go did you see Peter move into perfect position and then sprint to the win with a perfectly timed bike throw. That’s three years in a row now that Peter will wear the rainbow stripes and a feat which has not yet been done. Simply incredible. PC: Bettini

Speaking of the perfectly timed bike throw here it is after 260 kilometers of racing. A race that saw the typical large break go for most of the race then come back towards the end was then animated by attacks. Nothing was able to get much room on the reduced peloton until the final lap which saw Julian Alaphilippe take a flyer that only Giovanni Moscon could follow before being dropped by Alaphilippe. Moscon would later be disqualified after a video of his team car dragging him by a much too long sticky bottle emerged. With 5 km even Peter later said he thought the race was over but it all came back together just under 2 km from a group of 26 riders to contest the sprint. With a somewhat technical last kilometer Peter positioned himself well to come around Kristoff at the last minute. A massive heartbreak for Kristoff as it looked as though he was going to win Worlds in his hometown country. PC: Bettini

It was a busy week last week as it was all hands on deck from the RBA crew to be at Interbike. The show consisted of much walking around with meeting new companies and finding out what new products were on hand for our viewing. We will have a recap with a photo gallery on the web soon but here are a few images of what we saw. The big unveiling though was that Yamaha is now in the e-bike category as they made their presence very big at the show to show off their prototype line of bikes that will be coming out soon. We will have much more coverage on the Yamaha story soon but till then check out this video.

For more info on the Yamaha E-Bikes check out our video from the Interbike show.

The new UCI calendar was just recently released with a few notable changes for domestic racing. The Winston-Salem Classic is now gone as is the Cascade Classic from the America Tour as well. With Cascade being gone from the America Tour they may still have a domestic race but we’re not sure yet. For the domestic teams this isn’t much of a promising schedule if teams are planning on only racing in the US. Saguenay, Beauce and White Spot/Delta are all in Canada with the new Ruta del Centro being located in Mexico. For US racing only that only leaves Joe Martin, Tour of the Gila and the Independence Classic for mens. The Women do still have Winston Salem. There are still the three big races with Utah and Colorado but with more World Tour teams looking to come next year that tightens up the selection for the smaller US teams. It’ll be curious to see how the teams cope with such a small schedule for the upcoming year.

2018 UCI North America Tour:

April 12-15 – Joe Martin Stage Race, 2.2
