QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“Amer is no longer including its cycling business for 2017 and 2018 in its overall business figures since it has started the formal process of looking for a buyer for the brands. The cycling business, through the Mavic and Enve brands, is now counted as “discontinued operations” in accordance with reporting standards, the company said.” From a report in Bicycle Retailer & Industry News on the Mavic’s parent company making moves away from cycling.
TIPS TO BEAT THE POST RACE BLUES
When we cross a finish line or see a project to completion, our first reaction is generally to the outcome or the process. We might feel, joy, sadness, anger, or satisfaction initially – but as time goes on, what remains is often emptiness. After devoting yourself to a goal, completion can be another word for loss.
We are trained, both within the athletic community and society at large, to regard focus, perseverance, and dedication as assets. That’s why it’s sometimes so confusing to enter a rest period when we can’t really use those tools we are have so proudly honed. However, every worthy project contains a beginning, middle, and an end. In order to fully benefit from our efforts, we need to take time to pause and evaluate where we have been, and where we want to go next.
2019 TOUR DE FRANCE ROUTE ANNOUNCED
Tour de France organizers threw down the gauntlet to the climbing specialists when they unveiled the “the highest Tour in history” for a 2019 edition featuring a record 30 mountain passes and five summit finishes.
With a nod to Belgian legend Eddy Merckx, the 2019 Tour begins in Brussels on July 6 and ends 3,460 kilometers later on the Champs Elysees in Paris on July 28, the opening and closing stages about as flat as it gets on the 106th edition.
THOMAS AND FROOME REACT TO TOUR ROUTE
Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome was coy Thursday over whether he or Geraint Thomas would lead Sky at the 2019 edition, but said it would make a great 10th birthday gift for the British team. “It’s going to be a tough, tough, tough race, that’s for sure. But if one of us could win it it would be really special as this year is the tenth anniversary of the founding of Team Sky,” said the Kenyan-born Briton.

DARIO PEGORETTI TO STAR AT THE HANDMADE BICYCLE SHOW
The North American Handmade Bicycle Show is pleased to announce that “Officina” Dario Pegoretti — the team that Dario trained for many years — will be exhibiting at NAHBS 2019, showcasing the technical and artistic vision of their legendary founder. NAHBS will be held at the Sacramento Convention Center, March 15-17, 2019, in what will be the show’s 15-year anniversary.
Pegoretti, a legendary Italian bicycle framebuilder who passed away unexpectedly from heart failure this past August, was widely considered to be one of the greatest contemporary bicycle framebuilders. He used only steel and aluminum to build his frames, and created awe-inspiring custom paint and graphics designs that were coveted by his customers. Pegoretti was a multi-time NAHBS award winner, receiving the President’s Choice award in 2007 and winning Framebuilder of the Year in 2008. Read the tribute to Dario Pegoretti

EVENTS: NOSCO RIDE NOVEMBER 3RD
Over the past nine years, the Mike Nosco Memorial Bicycle Ride has become an increasingly successful community event that has grown significantly each year. There has been an overwhelming outpour of generosity from our community, making the ride very special to all that participate – as riders and as volunteers. The main goal is to provide financial relief to families and/or individuals in our community. The emotional support that comes with 700+ people showing up in their honor is incredible! Your support means a lot to them and goes a long way in providing inspiration and strength to our recipients and their families.
For those new to the ride, let it be known that it is a very tough 80-mile bicycle ride, but one that I believe pales in comparison to what our recipients endure each day. As we struggle to climb Deer Creek, Mulholland and Latigo Canyon, please keep them in your thoughts and I am sure those climbs will flatten out somewhat (at least in your mind). They won’t go away, but we can all conquer them, and as we re-unite back at the park, we can stand proud of our accomplishments and of the fact that we are all out there making a difference in the lives of others!
We look forward to your participation. Thank you for helping me and my family turn a day of misery into a day of celebration!
