If you rode Old Caz you’re probably on an adventure hang over, thinking about cleaning your gravel/adventure bike and planning your next ride. Or, maybe you’ll just let it hang, pull your road bike off the rack, and get ready for Chileno Valley. If you didn’t make Old Caz, you’ve been looking at photos, checking people’s Stravas and getting stoked for Chilleno Valley. Chileno Valley Grasshopper is a classic Sonoma-Marin Loop. We pack all the most lightly traveled roads in an 80 mile loop that somehow adds up to 8000 k of climbing. (Proving once again that when riding in the WestPole it’s always 1000ft per 10 miles) With ripping descents, punchy climbs and rolling sections along the Pacific Ocean and dairy lands, this ride offers the perfect combination for road cyclists.
New this year we’re offering a shorter version, 58 miles, as an option. With “only” 5200 ft of climbing it is a tough loop with all the spectacular scenery, but leaves out the Marshal-Wilson Hill-Chileno Valley Loop. You will still have the challenge of finishing up Joy Rd. So, if you’re looking for a killer ride with “February Legs”, check it out. If you have signed up for one route but want to switch, just let us know before the 11th.
Here’s a painting by artist Charles Beck of the bridge we will cross early in the ride on Franklin School Rd between Valley Ford and Tomales. (We’ll be finishing at his studio on Joy Rd) As we roll through northern Marin, you’ll melt into the scenery. Here’s to another day of bike riding with 300 of your new best friends. If you’re already registered, sweet. If not you can find more information: http://www.grasshopperadventureseries.com
