Road Bike Action will be covering all of the latest events, racing and expo happenings SBT GRVL 2022. Steamboat Springs, Colorado, will host one of the most popular weekends on the gravel calendar, with over 2000 riders expected to participate in a weekend of racing, riding and communing. There are a handful of activities that get underway beginning on Friday, August 12, with the opportunity to explore the local gravel with three group rides scheduled as well as the opening of the expo but the marquee SBT Black event takes place on Sunday with riders scheduled to race 142 miles of prime paved and graded gravel roads.
Now in its third year, SBT GRVL offers four different distances—142, 100, 60 and 37 miles. We’ll be returning to ride the Black and Blue courses for the second time. What made us return and the things that stand out about SBT are that the organization, course quality, communication and atmosphere are at an unmatched level. Rest, fuel and hydration stops were located every 20–25 miles and were well-supplied, all road crossings and intersections were patrolled by an officer all day, not just for the lead group and in addition to the stunning views, the city of Steamboat seemed to have no problem accommodating everyone.

RBA’S SBT GRVL ULTIMATE BIKE BUILDS
RBA editors Troy and David will be in town for the weekend and will be riding bikes from local titanium builder Moots and German value-brand Canyon; the goal is to share some useful gear selection info that’ll help someone planning for SBT or their next gravel event. If anyone has tech, gear or bike questions and wants some answers, send a letter to [email protected].
We’ll be documenting our trip from Los Angeles across the Mojave to Steamboat Springs. Along the way, they’ll get in some quick rides and visit a few friends. Come back soon to see the bikes and trip highlights during our return to SBT.

PRO RIDER BIKE BUILDS
SBT GRVL is the race to be at as the gravel calendar nears its “fall” schedule that features an event just about every weekend from September to the end of October. The gravel pro will be measuring their form as SBT will act as a reunion for most riders since Unbound Gravel in June. We plan on meeting up with seasoned WorldTour vets and up-and-comers alike to highlight their gear choice and hopefully open up a bit of insight as to what those that devote their lives to the sport believe will get them through one of the most challenging events of the year.
Here’s our first look at local SoCal rider Caroline Wreszin’s Cervelo Aspero. Wreszin is a local rider that we can normally find near the front of the group ride. While we haven’t seen her much since she started to attend the University of Oregon, we weren’t surprised to learn that she has continued to become a well-rounded rider with the help of the Tom Danielson led Cinch Rise team. Wreszin can be found racing local crits and road races, but gravel has become the perfect stage to highlight her talents. While we don’t want to put any pressure on this up-and-coming star, Wreszin has some impressive goals, and she is focused. More info.
