Scapin has added their first disc road bike to the line, called the Kalibra that follows the Scapin tradition of offering Italian painted frames at a very reasonable price. For the Kalibra, frameset pricing is set at $2,699 and will be available in three colors and five sizes.
According to Scapin, the Kalibra’s most striking feature is the front of the frame, with its oversized head tube joint, designed to react to strong vibrations from the front end. The head tube rests elegantly on the top of the fork. Its shape and materials are tailor-designed with the left stay having a larger cross-section to resist stress transmitted by the disc brakes. Improved aerodynamics are ensured by both the aero stays and the special cross-section of the main frame tubes. For example, the head tube is droplet shaped, as is the seat tube, which also has a rear cut-out to minimize turbulence in the wheel arch. The seatpost is also of the aero type and an internal expander bolt ensures “concealed” fastening. The Kalibra uses a rear 12x142mm thru axle along with Flat Mount calipers.
