Sea Otter Classic: Ibis Hakka MX Gravel Bike

A new gravel machine appears at the Sea Otter

Gravel seems to be the name of the game here at the recent Sea Otter Classic. There was no shortage of new gravel specific bikes coming out of the companies on hand. One that really caught our eye though was the new HAKKA MX courtesy of Ibis.

The Hakka MX is the re-born version of the famous Hakkalügi that was a favorite with the cyclocross crowd. But in its new guise the Hakka MX is more directed to the dual purpose gravel scene. We were fortunate enough to grab one of these new Hakka’s and bring it home for a test to see how it handles in the terrain we throw at it.

  • Ability to run 700C Wheels or 650b Wheels
  • Carbon Fiber Monocoque Frame
  • 142mm through axle rear dropout spacing
  • T47 Threaded Bottom Bracket
  • Internal Cable Routing
  • Disc Brake Compatible
  • Dropper Post Compatible
  • Fender mounts
  • 1x or 2x Compatible
Plenty of tire clearance on hand for the new Hakka which is one of the first features we look at on any gravel bike.
It’s the little details…like this unique clenched fist fender mount…that we enjoy to see coming out of Ibis.
The burnt fire orange color that Ibis chose for their latest Hakka was an instant standout at the Sea Otter Classic.
The new trend seems to be minimal graphics and just let the paint scheme speak for itself.
The contrast teal blue of the Ibis lettering drapes the top of the downtube.
Ibis chose to pair their frame with a carbon Enve fork.
The asymmetrical chain stays on the Hakka show off the amazing craftsmanship that went into designing this frame.
The internal cable routing keeps the Ibis looking sleek and clean.
The HAKKA MX courtesy of Ibis has a retail price of $3195 complete…that’s a great price.
