Fresh off his Tour de France success Jasper Philipsen won the first bunch sprint of the Vuelta a Espana on Sunday, edging out Fabio Jakobsen and Michael Matthews.

Philipsen took the green sprint jersey thanks to his win on the 103 mile flat stage. Primoz Roglic held on to his lead after avoiding a crash in the final 2 miles which left multiple Bora Hansgrohe riders on the floor.

The third stage is the first summit finish, coming after a long rolling run, with sections of the final ascent at 17 percent gradient that should create major gaps in the finishing times.
