Team Release
The Redlands Bicycle Classic stage race, the first event in the year-long National Road Racing Calendar, wrapped up on Sunday with a win for Coryn Rivera of the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team. Stage five was considered by many to be the most challenging of the competition. The 68.1-mile Sunset Road race was made up of nine challenging circuits, and topped off with a fast three-mile run-in to the finish in the center of Redlands, California.
The race started hard and fast with a solo breakaway that eventually gained over a minute on the peloton. Soon, attacks from the main pack brought the day’s breakaway to an end, and the group was back together for the finish. The fierce pace of the closing laps whittled the lead group down to 15 riders, with the majority of the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team still represented. Katie Hall, the best-placed rider for Team UnitedHealthcare in the General Classification, selflessly provided the perfect lead out for Coryn Rivera, who bested Brianna Walle in a close sprint. After the stage-winning lead out, teammate Katie Hall was able to capture the final podium position for the UnitedHealthcare Blue Train.
Rivera was delighted with her win, saying she was “Super Stoked!” with the victory. Sporting Director Rachel Heal has been on hand guiding her team through the racing all week. Wrapping up the racing with a win was exactly the result Heal was expecting, “the team rode a great race today, with everyone playing their part. Sunset is a notoriously hard circuit race, and to take the win here after yesterday’s criterium victory is fantastic.”
Katie Hall Takes Fourth Overall at Redlands Bicycle Classic
After five days of racing, Katie Hall landed in fourth place on the general classification at the 2015 Redlands Bicycle Classic. The result is validation of the hard work Hall has put in over the winter. After a successful debut professional season with UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling team in 2014, Hall started the 2015 season with a high profile victory when she seized mountaintop success in stage 5 of the 2015 Tour Femenino de San Luis in Argentina.
