THE UCI JUST RELEASED A STATEMENT ON DROPPER POSTS

Following Matej Mohoric’s clever use of a dropper seat post to aid his ride to victory at Milan San Remo, cycling’s governing body, the UCI released a statement to let everyone know just where they stand on the issue. Thankfully, they approve of the modulating seat post technology as long as they are within the regulations applied to standard posts. In our opinion it was only a matter of time before we saw them following the UCI’s 2021 ban on the super tuck. While the aerodynamic gains from a 10mm lower seat position are marginal, the added handling benefits from a lower center of gravity is were the true value lies. Here’s the full UCI statement on droppers below.

“The UCI Equipment Commission approved the use of dropper seatposts in road cycling competitions in 2014. Their use is subject to the minimum 5cm setback rule of article 1.3.013 of the UCI Regulations, i.e., when the dropper seatpost is set to its highest or lowest setting, the saddle setback must be in full compliance with article 1.3.013.
