Tom Dumoulin pulled out of the Giro d’Italia on Saturday after suffering back pain during the 14th stage around Turin. Dutchman Dumoulin was over 19 minutes off the lead and left the race after struggling on the first of five climbs. The Jumbo-Visma rider finished third in the second stage, a time-trial in Hungary, but by the time the peloton arrived at the first summit finish on Mount Etna at the end of stage four 31-year-old Dumoulin had already given up any chance of claiming the pink jersey. Dumoulin took silver at the time trial in last year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.
