Tour de France 2019 Stage 1 Preview

Saturday, July 6 - Stage 1

Stage 1 – 194.5 km – Flat

The second Grand Départ held in Brussels after the one in 1958 will honor one of the country’s specialty: sprinting! Despite the fact that the day’s visit will take the riders on the roads of the Flemish classics, the perspective of a bunched finish in front of the Royal Palace remains the most likely. But a solo exploit can’t be excluded.

Categorized Climb

The Mur de Grammont will face the riders early in the day at kilometer 42.5. The climb is 1.2 kilometers long with an average gradient of 7.8 percent for a total of 110 meters gained.

Intermediate Sprint

Green Jersey points will be awarded at kilometer 125, just over halfway through the race. A slight uphill grade will make the difference in the points competition.

Final 5 Kilometers

Stage 1’s finale into Brussels is one Eddy Merckx would dominate. A long, powerful sprint will be necessary to secure the stage win and the yellow jersey.
