TOUR DE FRANCE 2021 STAGE 2 RESULTS MATHIEU VAN DER POEL MAKES IT HAPPEN

Mathieu van der Poel powered away from the peloton to win stage two of the 2021 Tour de France atop the Mur de Bretagne. The stage win catapulted the 26-year-old Tour de France debutant into the yellow jersey. Defending champion Tadej Pogacar finished 6 seconds behind in second with Primoz Roglic on his wheel to round out the podium on the 114 mile stage.

“I have no words, really I have no words.” Van der Poel said during an emotional post race interview.

“I gambled a little bit and I knew I needed the bonus seconds, I knew it was the last chance I had to get the yellow jersey.”
