Tour of California Announces Teams

The Amgen Tour of California has released their team selection for the upcoming edition. Much confusion was surrounding what teams would be selected for the newly upgraded World Tour status. It looks as though two Continental teams have made the cut with Rally Pro Cycling and Jelly Belly.

News first broke that Axeon Hagens Berman would not be included earlier this week and that seemed to open the door as to what teams would make the race. Another big surprise is that Holowesko-Citadel will not be racing as well. Holowesko-Citadel won a stage back in 2015 and wore the leader’s jersey following. Last year Robin Carpenter won a stage at the Tour of Utah and overall honors at the Tour of Alberta. It seems that perhaps the two most qualified Continental teams will be shut out of this year’s edition. What seems to be the most frustrating part of this selection process is that the teams have no idea on how the selection criteria are being made.
