Tweet of The Day: Giulio Ciccone Reacts to Being Told he did not Win the Yellow Jersey

When race radio has the wrong information...

Tour first-timer Giulio Ciccone was wheel-to-wheel with Dylan Teuns for nearly all of stage 6. The pair whittled away their 14-man breakaway until they were the only ones left in the final kilometer of racing.  Climbing the final 100 meters of La Planche Des Belles Filles, Teuns made his move to capture the stage win. Ciccone hobbled to the line  11 seconds behind with a look of extreme disappointment, little did he know the yellow jersey, Julian Alaphilippe would finish 1:35 beind him, making Ciccone the leader of the race.

Ciccone says his team manager told him he won yellow, then quickly redacted the statement over race radio, then they confirmed  he won the jersey and the 24 year old Italian was able to celebrate.

In addition to the overall, Ciccone leads the best young rider competition and his Trek Segafredo squad leads the team competition.
