Has Your Wahoo Computer Stopped Receiving Text Notifications? Quick Fix

Smart devices aren't perfect but easy enough to fix.

When it comes to cycling computers, things have come a long way in the last few years. The Wahoo line of cycling computers was one of the first to truly rely on a smartphone for setup and much of its user experience. Beyond setup and changing settings the smartphone can also be set up to notify you of incoming calls and messages. For us, this isn’t that important but it seems that many of our readers use it from the recent number of messages asking about how to get it to work.

THE PROBLEM

From the flurry of emails, it seems that something must have changed recently because all the users that emailed in had everything set up and working fine then recently it just stopped. Most said they still get notified of incoming calls but the messages notification has stopped. A few had both functions stop working but not many.  As we went to test this we realized we too were in the same situation and were not getting the message notifications.

This seems to affect the Bolt, Roam and the original Elemnt. From the emails, it also seems to be with Apple iPhone users more than Android but there was one case of a user not using an iPhone. This makes us think that it’s an update that happened on the phone and not a problem with the Wahoo devices. Bluetooth, in general, can be a bit moody so it’s not a surprise.

THE FIX

First and foremost we went into the Elemnt app and ensured our settings were correct, and that we had everything enabled. In our case, everything looked good and set appropriately.

****When doing the next steps make sure you are not in an active ride**** We learned this the hard way, as you will lose your ride completely when the Wahoo restarts.

Next on your phone open the Elemnt app and go to settings. Find the device that is giving you problems and unpair it.

On your phone open the Elemnt app and go to settings. Find the device that is giving you problems and unpair it.

Next, go to your phone’s Bluetooth settings and find the matching paired device and delete/forget the device.

Go to your phone’s Bluetooth settings and find the matching paired device and delete/forget the device.

Now move over to your Wahoo computer and you need to forget the connected phone. Hit the power button to pull up the menu and near the bottom select forget phone.

At this point, your phone should have no relationship with the computer and if you didn’t heed the warning above about no doing this during an activity, it should still be safe. The next step is where you will lose your current ride if you continue, so don’t be like us and lose the first 25 miles of your ride.

Now you just need to pair your phone with the computer like normal. On the device press the power button to enter the menu and scroll down to select, pair phone.

Now on the phone open the Elemnt app and under settings select add new device. Follow the steps as the Wahoo is very easy to setup. After it’s all set up and the phone is paired go to your settings in the Elemnt app and ensure the notifications that you want to receive are turned on.

Now go for a ride and wait for someone to send you a message, It should be working again.

If you have more problems, Wahoo has one of the best customer service departments and they will be happy to help you more in-depth.
