Every Monday Road Bike Action Editors choose their favorite stage from the previous days and wrap it up with a few photos.


Marking the WorldTour calendar for the first time, the inaugural UAE Tour began this past weekend with a 16 kilometer Team Time Trial win for the Dutch Jumbo-Visma squad. However, the second stage set the bar of what to expect from racing on the Middle Eastern Circuit.

Yas Island
The peloton rolled out from the man-made Yas Island and was met with extreme winds whipping sand and dust across the road.
Racer’s began to attack and echelons split the peloton in pieces. Fernando Gaviria (COL – UAE – Team Emirates) – Davide Formolo (ITA – Bora – Hansgrohe) – Vincenzo Nibali (ITA – Bahrain Merida) – Peter Kennaugh (GBR – Bora – Hansgrohe)
A dangerous split with Alejandro Valverde and Elia Viviani went up the road prompting the peloton to work together and bring the move back.
Approaching the final meters Alexander Kristof lead out Fernando Gaviria who was able to beat his former Quick Step teammate Elia Viviani with a bike throw on the line.
