STRADE BIANCHE 2019

European racing has begun, With Strade Bianche and Paris Roubaix this past weekend , raceing fans had their fair share of WorldTour action. The Deceuninck came out in full force in Italy to continue their classics domination. As the gravel road wore down the peloton, Julian Alaphilippe found himself in a break away with Astana’s Jakob Fuglsang and cyclocross star Wout van Aert from Jumbo.

Ahead of favorite Greg van Avermaet and 2018 victor Tiesj Benoot the trio traded pulls over the gravel sectors to maintain their lead. Wout Van Aert (BEL – Team Jumbo – Visma) – Jakob Fuglsang (DEN – Astana Pro Team) – Julian Alaphilippe (FRA – Deceuninck – Quick Step)
Benoot lead the charge on the hopefuls but the leaders held off the pursuit. Tiesj Benoot (BEL – Lotto Soudal)
Fuglsang and Alaphilippe dropped van Aert about 20 kilometers from the finish. However the Belgie didn’t fall back to the chase group and continued on solo in no man’s land. Jakob Fuglsang (DEN – Astana Pro Team) – Julian Alaphilippe (FRA – Deceuninck – Quick Step)

The Quick Step rider made held off his breakaway mates and crossed the line just in sight of Fuglsang, wrapping up another one day win for the Wolfpack. Julian Alaphilippe (FRA – Deceuninck – Quick Step)
