World Champ Michal Kwiatkowski was the last man of the breakaway on Stage 12, eventually getting caught by a chase group on the final climb.

Gerraint Thomas was Sky’s MVP for the day, staying with Chris Froome throughout the day and pacing him up much of the day’s final climb.

Alberto Contador put in an attack near the beginning of the day’s final climb, but wouldn’t be able to make it stick.

Stage 12 belonged to Katusha’s Joaquim Rodriguez, who grabbed the final climb by the scruff of its neck and proceeded to distance himself from the rest of his rivals.

Overall leader Chris Froome fought hard against every attack put on him by his GC rivals.
